The Artistic Voice Within blog post ... Don't rush it!

The Artistic Voice Within blog post

My artistic voice hasn't been rushed, it's something that I have been quietly searching for all my life, sometimes purposely but mostly unintentionally. From those early days of customising my own clothes, playing obscure music and visiting various, significant places it has allowed me to evolve and grow throughout my lifetime and carve out the story of me.

Influences are very important to us all, we are all influenced by someone or something, sometimes without even realising it. it could be a song that resonates with us and has stayed with us throughout the years, its lyrics providing a connection or linking to a memory. Some examples for me include my love of stars, I remember owning a star brooch that was bought for me as a child, I remember how precious it was to me and its only when I think back now that I realise that this brooch was most probably the foundations of my 'star love'. I love the shape, the sharpness of the edges, the harshness of the pointy extremities and the magical feel of a star and the meanings that it holds in my heart.

Stars are everywhere in my life today, on jewellery, clothing, artwork to name a few and of course in Stardust Acrylic Art!

I have always loved the way that the waves ebb and flow on the beach , leaving a foamy residue and wavy path, the sounds of the sea and the shapes and ripples that are created on the wet sand. When painting I can now see this connection, it was unknowingly at first, but now realise that some of the marks that I make as I paint form a path, an interpretation of movement as the brushstrokes sweep across the canvas or paper. Animal print is also a big part of my world, from the bold colours and shapes of my decor stemming way back to my first home way back when I was 19. I can remember buying a huge picture of a beautiful tiger face which I hung pride of place above the fire and the and the tactile feel of the faux fabric which I bought to adorn my bedroom. Nowadays I can't walk past an animal print tissue paper or collage paper and if a design in a magazine catches my eye then I have to have it!

These are just a few examples but as I analyse my work and myself more I can see that I unknowingly connect with these memories and then this is transferred into the design of my work ...My Artistic Voice.

It may be personal to me but its been carving away over the years and I am proud to get it out there in the world...
